Convertible loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development

In March 2024, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) provided a convertible loan of 5.5 billion tenge to the private company Salt Industry Ltd., registered in the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) and being a shareholder of JSC «Araltuz». The funds are aimed at financing the construction of a salt evaporation plant, which will allow launching Kazakhstan’s first production of high-quality vacuum salt.

The project implementation aligns with JSC «Araltuz» strategic goals to increase production capacity, expand the product range and enter new markets. Raising financing from the EBRD confirms the company’s high investment attractiveness and the project’s national significance.

Under the agreement terms, the loan may be converted into an equity stake in Salt Industry Ltd. upon achievement of certain financial and operational indicators. In this case, the EBRD will receive the status of a minority shareholder, providing additional oversight of corporate governance quality and compliance with best international practices.

Partnership with the EBRD contributes to further institutional strengthening of JSC «Araltuz», increasing business transparency, operational model resilience and the introduction of ESG standards (environmental, social and governance) in line with international requirements.
